Mr. Clyde E. (Paul) Kirsch, 68, of Altoona died at 1:30 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2018 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Kirsch was born March 3, 1949 in Loretto, PA son of the late Paul F. and Rita M. (Williams) Kirsch. He married Barbara K. Showalter on August 10, 1996.
He was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona.
Paul is survived by his wife; two sons, Edward Kirsch and Joseph R. (Carla Foust) Kirsch both of Altoona; two step-daughters Melissa K. Slick, Jon, Jessica, Hunter and William Hoffman; and eight great grandchildren, Kenly, Bensyn, Thaddeus, Natilie, Ashlynn, Bailey, Noah and Cooper; two sisters, Phyllis McNulty and Jean Farabaugh both of Carrolltown; and his Best Friend, a cockatoo "Buddy".
Paul was a 1967 graduate of Penn Cambria High School and graduated from Admiral Perry Vo-Tech in 1990 as a Certified Nurses Aide. He retired from Hollidaysburg Veterans Home in 2007 as a Certified Nurses Aide with sixteen years of service. Previously he was a coal miner at Bethlehem Mines in Ebensburg.
Paul was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Veitnam Campaign, Army Commendation and Good Conduct Medals.
He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Camp Anderson. He enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, Penquins and Altoona Curve fan and enjoyed going to casinos.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona.
Committal rites and Military Honors will be held at Alto Reste Park Cemetery, Altoona.
Friends will be received Tuesday, March 6, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home where a Vigil for the Deceased will be held during the visitation.
