Doris A. Smith

Doris A. Smith, 90, Altoona, passed away Tuesday July 23, 2024, at her home. Born June 16, 1934, Altoona, daughter of the late Ralph E. and Edna C. (Boslet) Martin. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Jeremiah “Jerry” Smith on April 28, 2014; her son, Kevin C. “KC” Smith on August 4, 1993; her sister, Janet Pufka; and brother-in-law, Joe Pufka. Survived by four sons, Daniel E. Smith, Richard A. (Karen), Ronald M. (Dana), and Thomas A. (Karen); daughter-in-law, Dene (Tim) Schaut, all of Altoona; seven grandchildren, Aimee (Marc) Pirollo, Jonathan, Kevin, Nick (Ricci), Casey (CJ), Gabby and Kiki; seventeen great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Mary Lysinger and Anna Mae Shevenock. Doris was a 1952 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School. She previously worked as a waitress for Penn Alto Hotel and Romagnoli’s Café, was an aide for IU8, and retired from working in food services at the Altoona School District in 2008, where she enjoyed participating in the annual high school plays and morning MLTV news skits. Doris enjoyed watching her sons play sports and cherished the times spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed feeding her birds and squirrels in her backyard. Doris was a kind and loving person who put her family above everything. Her bubbly personality and laugh could brighten anyone’s day. She will be greatly missed. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Friends and family will be received Monday, July 29, 2024 from 4-8 p.m., Jones Funeral Home, 1222 13th Ave., Altoona. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 10 a.m., Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 2010 12th Ave., Altoona, Msgr. Stanley Carson celebrant. Committal Calvary Cemetery, Altoona. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
