Eleanor Fischer

Mrs. Eleanor Ann Fischer, 93, of Altoona, Pa, died at 1:10 PM, Monday, March 29, 2021 at her residence, after a brief illness.

She was born in Gallitzin, Pa on February 24, 1928, daughter of the late Stanley and Caroline (Zagata) Bem. She married Carl J. Fischer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gallitzin February 26, 1949. He preceded her in death December 11, 2011.

She was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament Altoona, Pa.

Eleanor was a graduate of Altoona High School. In addition to the dedication to her family she also loved the holidays, especially Christmas and Easter with Polish traditions. Hers was a warm welcoming home to all . Eleanor took great pride in her rock garden and blooming of her vibrant colored azaleas, showing off in spring. She loved to coordinate family functions and top them off with a poker game afterwards. Grandchildren were her specialty and each one was special to her. Later in life Eleanor took up painting.

Eleanor is survived by children John F. (Barbara) Fisher, of Altoona, Pa; Gary J. (Lois) Fischer, of Ashville, Pa; Ann E. Troutman, of Virginia Beach VA; and Carl E. (Lisa) Fischer, of Altoona, Pa; a brother Edward Bem, of Gallitzin, Pa. Eleanor is survived by 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 8 siblings.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, Pa with Msgr. Stanley B. Carson officiating. Covid restrictions of social distancing and masks are required.

Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery Altoona, Pa.

There will be no Public visitation.
