Freida Batrus

Freida M. Batrus, 80, of Altoona, Pa, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 4:44 PM, Thuresday, July 16,2015 at UPMC - Altoona after a brief illness.

Mrs. Batrus was born in Altoona, Pa. on March 7, 1935, daughter of the late Adam and Mary (Khoury) Christodoulos. She married James T. Batrus June 12, 1960 at St. George Antiochian Oethodox Church.

She retied as Executive Director at American Red Cross - Altoona Chapter Altoona. Previously she was Executive Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Her proudest professional achievements were bringing entertainment and sports celebrities to Altoona for charitable roasts. She also initiated Penn State Altoona Campus dance marathons which evolved into the " Thon Fund Raiser" at Penn State Main Campus. She found it personally enriching that her efforts touched the families she served.

She was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church Altoona, Pa.

Freida was a 1953 graduate of Altoona High School. She was a member of the Altoona High School Alumni Association, St. Mary's Ladies Society at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church and local politics. She was proud of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking Greek and Syrian foods, her doll collection, knitting, going to casinos and her dogs Duke and Jackie.

Freida is survived by her husband and 2 children Julie Lynn (husband John K.) Carbaugh, of Herndon, VA, and James Jason "J.B." (wife Stephanie L.) Batrus, of Altoona, Pa. Freida is also survived by 4 grandchildren Daniel J. Matthew J. and Sara E. Carbaugh and Olivia L. Batrus and a bother Dr. Charles J. Crist of St. Petersburg, FL. a sister Helen Crist of Altoona, Pa. She was preceded in death by 4 siblings; Sam Nasralla, James Nasralla, Eva Hughes, and Harry Crist.

A Funeral Service will be celebrated at St. George Antiochian Othodox Church, Altoona, Pa at 10:00 AM on Tuesday July 21,2015 with Fr. Joseph Gereige officiating. A Mercy Meal will be provided following the Service in the Church Hall.

Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery Altoona, Pa.

Friends will be received Monday July 20, 2015 from 4 - 8 PM at Jones Funeral Home where a Trisagion Service will be held at 7:00 PM.
