Gary Crabtree

Mr. Gary R. Crabtree, 81, of Altoona, Pa, died at 8:46 PM, Thursday, August 16, 2018 at UPMC – Altoona, after an extended illness.

Mr. Crabtree was born in Altoona, Pa on June 9, 1937, he was the son of the late Raymond Harry and Estell (Yohn) Crabtree. He married Beverly Anne Shuma July 19, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Juniata, Altoona.

He retired in 2000 as a chauffeur / truck driver at Norfolk Southern Railroad, Altoona with 44 years' service.

He attended First Church of Christ, Altoona.

Gary was a 1955 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a member of the Bavarian Aid Society, Fort Apache VFW and Kale Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, baseball and football, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates and Penn State.

In addition to his wife he is survived by five children, Gary R. (Lisa) Crabtree of Tyrone; Timothy A. (partner Samantha Simmers) Crabtree of Altoona; Michele E. (Steven) Umstead Sr. of Tyrone; Kent A. (Heidi) Crabtree of Leesburg, VA; and Darren S. (Lori) Crabtree of Tyrone; a sister Lynda J. Vaughn of Bellwood. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Gary was preceded in death by a sister Miriam White.

A funeral service will be held at First Church of Christ, Altoona at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 20, 2018 with Rev. Alex Hildebrand officiating.

Committal rites will be held at Blair Memorial Park Cemetery, Altoona.

Friends will be received Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home.
