James  J.  Roland

Mr. James  J.  Roland,  65, of  1011 - 16th Ave. Altoona,  died at 9:06 PM , Sunday, February 9, 2014 at UPMC - Altoona,  unexpectedly.

Mr. Roland was born in Altoona, Pa. on August 16, 1948,  son of the late John  E.  and Vernita (Strittmatter) Roland.  He married Diane L. Leidy October 12, 1968 at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, Bellefonte.

He was a van driver for at Blair Senior Services,  Altoona. He previously was an agent for Northwestern Mutual Life Company and worked for Lamar Advertising..

He was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament Altoona, PA, where he served as a Lector, member of the Charismatic Group and the RICA Team..

Jim was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Life Member of the National Rifle Association and an Active member of the Pro-Life movement. He enjoyed his family and church..

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife and 7 children  Jamie  D. Roland, of Elmira, NY; Jennifer  D. (husband Brian) Rupnik, of Bethlehem, Pa. ; Jason  M. (Heather) Roland, of Altoona, Pa. ;  Joseph  P. (Shawna) Roland, of Altoona, Pa. ;  Justin  P.  Roland, of Mountain Top, Pa. ;  Joshua J. (Laine) Roland, of Altoona, Pa. ; and James  J. (Jessica) Roland II, of Altoona, Pa.  11 grandchildren and 6 siblings Daniel  Roland, of Boalsburg, Pa. ;  Ann Easter, of Prescott, AZ;  John  Joseph Roland, of Phoenix, AZ;  Raymond A. Roland of Bellefonte, Pa.,Therese M. McIntyre of Prescott, AZ  and Margaret M. Bathie of Cedaredge, CO.  Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette M. Roland and a sister Mary Agnes Hoover.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, PA.
