James Elwood Shannon, 92, Duncansville, formerly of Altoona, died Monday at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Joshua and Clara (Yanson) Shannon.
He retired in 1990 as a self-employed truck driver/coal hauler with 45 years of service.
He had attended Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Jim enjoyed recycling, restoring cars, wrestling and watching old western movies.
He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal with four Bronze Stars and a United Nations Service Medal.
Jim is survived by four children: Tammy L. (Mike) Edwards, of Glendale, Ronald H. (Melissa) Fagan, William D. (Kim) Fagan and Brenda L. (Dan) Causer, all of Altoona; two siblings, Phyllis Nemic, of Altoona and Thomas Shannon, of Bensalem. Jim is also survived by 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three siblings: Virginia Shannon, Rosella Stevens and Franklin “Duck” Shannon.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no public visitation. A private religious funeral service will be celebrated at Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Roy A. Steward officiating. Interment will take place at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home, Altoona.
