Mrs. Jean “Gina” C. Karnes, 87, of Altoona, Pa, died at 2:52 AM, Sunday, August 23, 2020 at her residence, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Karnes was born in Bradys Bend, Pa on May 28, 1933, daughter of the late Giuliano and Celeste (DeMatteis) Andreassi. She married William E. Karnes May 31, 1952 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Bradys Bend, Pa. He preceded her in death May 28, 2005 after 53 years of marriage.
She was a devoted member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Altoona, where she was a member of the Choir and Welcoming Committee.
Jean attended East Brady High School. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and volunteered at Birthright, St. Vincent DePaul Society and Garvey Manor. She was dedicated to the Blessed Mother, attended daily Mass, was a prayer warrior for family and friend. She enjoyed cooking, Rosary making, puzzles and singing. Nothing was more important to her than God. Blessed Mother and her family. Her family was as devoted to her as she was to them.
Jean retired in 1995 from Bon Secours Hospital as an insurance clerk with 15 years of service.
She is survived by 4 daughters and a son Sylvia (Noel) Villadolid, Maria (Matt) Schirf, Andrea Karnes Garnoau, William (Peggy Gooderham) Karnes, Gina (Jerry) Brandt all of Altoona, Pa. 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. 6 siblings Raymond Andreassi, Malphine Fogel and Lydia Emerick, all of Butler, Pa. Josephine Vasebinder, of East Brady, Pa; Silvio Andreassi and Helen Barto both of Bradys Bend, Pa. Jean was preceded in death by a sister Mary Barnhart and a son-in-law Stephen Fink.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 27, 2020 at St. Therese of the Child Jesus, Altoona, Pa with Fr. D. Timothy Grimme officiating with COVID – 19 restrictions in place.
Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery Altoona, Pa.
There will be no public visitation.
Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home.
