Joanne Stephens

Mrs. Joanne M. “Queen Bee” Stephens, 85, of 588 Eger Lane, Duncansville, Pa died Monday, April 1, 2019 at 3:38 PM at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home after an extended illness.

Mrs. Stephens was born in Altoona, Pa on October 16, 1933, daughter of the late Stanley M. and Madeline M. (Crist) Luther. She married Eugene A. Stephens February 7, 1959 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. He preceded her in death March 16, 1974.

She retired in 1997 as a secretary at James E. VanZandt Veterans Administration Hospital Altoona with 25 years of service.

She was a member of St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church Altoona, Pa.

Joanne was a 1951 graduate of Mount Aloysius High School, Cresson, Pa. She enjoyed her grand and great grandchildren, painting, art and bowling.

She is survived by 4 daughters Ann Marie (Tom) Makowieck, and Karen L. (Tony) Zanfion both of Hollidaysburg, Pa; Barbara J. (Dale) Young, of Mifflinville, Pa and Theresa E. (David) Chandler, of Duncansville, Pa; 5 SIBINGS William S. Luther, of Duncansville, Pa; Mary Catherine Douglass of Reisterstown, MD; Michael H. Luther, of Richmond, VA; Lucinda A. “Cindy” Bryan, of Spruce Creek, SC; and Patricia L. Sipes, of Pointa Verda, FL; Joanne is also survived by 10 grandchildren Aaron & Sean Makowiecki, Adam & Jessica Zanfino, Kalyn Weinberg Deven Young & Kierstin Stockum, Lauren and Maure Chandler and Rachael Barnhart and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers Richard T. Luther, Gerald F. Luther and James Joseph Luther.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 6, 2019 at St. Rose Of Lima Church, Altoona, Pa with Fr. Brian Saylor officiating.

Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery Altoona, Pa.

Friends will be received April 5, 2019 from 4-8 PM Friday, April 5, 2019 at Jones Funeral Home where a Vigil For the Deceased will be held during the visitation.
