John A. “Cannon” “Peach” Carrig, 66, Altoona, died Saturday at his residence, after an extended illness.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late John P. and Jeanette M. (Markos) Carrig.
Surviving are two sisters: Sandra M. Tolston and Diane L. Seery, both of Altoona; two nieces: Dr. Erin B. Seery and husband, Jonathan Dearing, of Charleston, S.C., and Caitlin G. Tournay and husband, Zac, of Pittsburgh; two nephews: Robert C. Tolston and wife, Dawn, of Altoona and Kurt J. Seery, of New York City, N.Y.; and a great-nephew, Owen E. Dearing.
John was a 1972 graduate of Altoona Area High School and he attended Penn State University. He retired in 2020 as a reset manager at McAneny Brothers, Ebensburg, after 40 years of service in the industry.
He was an avid golfer and was a member of Park Hills Country Club, and he enjoyed playing golf with his friends on weekends and in the “Moron League.” His favorite holidays were Thanksgiving and Christmas and he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He had a soft spot in his heart for animals and enjoyed watching Penn State football. John liked to exercise, and for the past 30 years he walked eight to nine miles a day without ever missing a day, no matter what the weather was like.
At John’s request there will be no visitation or services. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home, Altoona.
