Mr. Joseph D. Tomlinson, 60, of Altoona, Pa, died at 3:38 PM, Friday, February 12, 2016 at home after a courageous battle with bladder cancer, surrounded by his family.
Joe was born in Altoona, Pa. on February 26, 1955, son of Janet E. (Resig) Tomlinson and the late Donald J. Tomlinson. He married Dana M. Smithmyer May 19, 1984 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.
He was Branch Manger at Curley Adjustment Bureau Altoona with 32 years of service.
He was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament Altoona Pa.
Joe was a 1973 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School and a 1977 graduate of St. Francis University. He was a Cathedral usher, past parish council president, a member of the social committee and the marriage preparation team. He was also a member of Newburg Rod & Gun Club, Third Degree Knights of Columbus. Council 551 and served as Chancellor and was president of the Home Association. He played cornerback for St. Francis Football and was a member of TKE Fraternity. Joe enjoyed coaching the Altoona Parochial League football teams of Ncelis and Altoona Central Catholic School for 16 years, golf and doing marathons and triathalons. He was true blue Pittsburgh Pirate fan. He loved life - sharing his love with family and friends. He believed helping others was his calling. He volunteered and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Survivng are his wife and 2 children Justin C. Tomlinson, of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Danielle E. Tomlinson, at home; mother Janet Tomlinson, of Altoona, Pa.; a sister Patricia J. (Denny) Hite, of Altoona, Pa and a bother Richard (Rick) M. (Lori) Tomlinson, of Tipton, Pa. Joe was preceded in death by a brother John J. Tomlinson.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, Pa at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 with Msgr. Robert C. Mazur officiating.
Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery Altoona, Pa.
Friends will be received Monday, February 15, 2016 from 3 - 8 PM at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament where a Vigil For the Deceased will be held during the visitation.
