Mr. Joseph H. Wiedemer, 89, of 3419 Washington Avenue, Altoona died at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg after a brief illness.

Mr. Wiedemer was born in Altoona on July 6, 1928, son of the late Martin F. and Regina (Costlow) Wiedemer. He married Patricia A. "Pat" Smeal April 15, 1950 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Altoona. She preceded him in death January 9, 2011.

He retired in 1986 as a staff representative of the United Steel Workers of America with 15 years' service. He previously worked as a pressman and truck driver at Crane Company.

Joe was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona where he served as an usher for many years.

Joe was a 1947 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and attended St. Francis College, Loretto. He was known for his letters to the editor and placing a CCC Memorial Statue in Hyner, Pa. He was a member of Newburg Volunteer Fire Association, Western Clinton County Sportsmans Association, CCC Legacy, was a past Board of Director member of ARC Federal Credit Union and United Way. He enjoyed hunting, being outdoors and was an avid reader.

He is survived by seven children, Tim J. (Phyllis) Wiedemer of Altoona; Michael D. Wiedemer of Sinking Valley, Altoona; Becky Wiedemer of Newark, DE; Jennifer M.(Clifford E.) Plank of Altoona; Mary E. (Joe) Montler of State College.; Stephen J. (Pami) Wiedemer of Turtle Creek; and Dr. Joseph P. (Christine) Wiedemer of Duncansville. Joe is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven siblings and a grandson Bernard G. Plank.

A F uneral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday March 17, 2018 at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona with Msgr. Robert C. Mazur officiating.

Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

Friends will be received Friday, March 16, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home where a vigil for the deceased will be held during the visitation.
