Juan F. Bickel, 90, Duncansville, died Monday at Maybrook Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Frank and Kathryn (Brandt) Yon. On Nov. 24, 1948, she married Charles W. “Charlie” Bickel at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 2005.
Surviving are two sons, Brian P. (Tammy) Bickel, of Altoona and Charles A. (Fanling) Bickel of Hollidaysburg; six grandchildren: Trisha, Joshua, Virginia, Jeremy (Abby) Chang Zhe and Jenna (Terry); and two great-grandchildren: Audrey Rose and Avery.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Sue Bickel; a sister, Vera; five brothers: Joseph, Frank, Charles, John and Arthur Yon; and a daughter-in-law, Peggy Bickel.
Juan was a 1945 graduate of Altoona High School, and graduated from Lock Haven State Teachers College. She retired in 1981 after 30 years of service as a teacher from the Altoona Area School District.
She was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, and she enjoyed playing the piano and spending time with her grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at Jones Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held during the visitation. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Monsignor Robert C. Mazur celebrant. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
