Mary Lou Taneyhill, 87, a native of Altoona, died peacefully Thursday, December 26, 2024, at her residence surrounded by loving family after a brief illness. Born on June 4, 1937, daughter of the late George and Sarah (Guyer) Taneyhill. Also preceded in death by siblings, Edward Taneyhill and Cora Mae Weller. Survived by sons, Brent Schultz of Fredericksburg, VA and Michael (Tina) Schultz of Altoona; grandchildren, Kenneth (Meaghan) Brazile, Tiffany (Zac) Siwy, Taylor Schultz, and Hunter Schultz; great-grandchildren, Christian, Brody, Anabelle, Adaline, Dylan, and Evan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Lou attended Altoona Area High School Class of 1955 and was employed at EADS Engineering for over 30 years where she was passionate about her role as office manager. Mary Lou grew up with a carefree spirit while the values of hard work and responsibility were instilled in her at a young age. She believed in the importance of balancing work and fun and had a fancy fashion sense. Compassion for others, generosity, and the importance of listening during conversations were a few of her finest qualities. Mary Lou was a life-long learner. She spent countless hours reading and sharing her new discoveries with her family. Her smile was infectious and her hugs genuine. Mary Lou was an avid Penn State Nittany Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She also enjoyed reading, trivia, birdwatching, and relaxing in the sun. She will always be remembered for the traditional baking of cookies and pumpkin rolls she made every Christmas season. Her family was most important to her, and she treasured the time she spent with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary Lou also had a soft spot for furry friends, treating each one like the valuable family member it was. We couldn’t have asked for a better mother and grandmother. Mary Lou was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. She is now reunited in peace with family and friends who passed before her, embraced by their love once more. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her. A private service to celebrate Mary Lou’s life will be held in the future.
