Miss Monica M. Gimo, 83, of Altoona, Pa died Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center after an extended illness.
Miss Gimo was born in Altoona, Pa on July 16, 1935, daughter of the late Anthony and Kathryn (Monica) Gimo.
She retired August 1, 1993 as a Psycology and Supervisor of Special at Altoona Area School District with 35 years of service.
She was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament Altoona, Pa.
Miss Gimo was a 1952 graduate of Mt. Aloysius Academy, she recieved her Bachlor's of Psycology Degree in 1956 from St. Louis University, then in 1958 she recieved her Master's of Psycology Degree from Fordham University. She attented Penn State for Special classes.
Monica was a member of Garvey Manor Confraternity of Scapulor, a past member of boards of Easter Seals, Fire Commission, Bishop Guilfoyle Board, and on the Board of Directors of Day Care Services of Blair County. She enjoyed painting, gardening, volunteering for Contact Altoona and Garvey Manor.
She is survived by Cousins John Denis, of Altoona, Pa; John "Jake" Denis & son Gage; Gregory Denis, Brian (Amanda) Denis and children Crosby and Bennett, all of Altoona, Pa; Other family members Rick Catina & Family, of Whitefish, MT; Augie (Tomeo) Walker, of Carlisle, Pa; Guy Monica, of Ashville, Pa; Gail (Ryan) Kashalk, of Lawrenceville, Pa; Dr. & Mrs Thomas Ryan, of San Antonio, TX; Family Friend Mary (Bravin) Shumaker and daughters Jessica and Maggie & families. Monica was preceded in death by a cousin Joyanna (Monti) Denis.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacranent, Altoona, with Msgr. Robert C. Mazur officiating.
Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery Altoona, Pa.
There will be no public visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Contact Altoona 2729 - 8th Avenue Altoona, Pa 16602 or Catholic Charities 1300 - 12th Avenue Altoona, Pa 16601.
