Msgr. Paul Panza Prothonetary Apostolic

Magr. Paul D. Panza, Prothonetary Apostolic, 90 of Our Lady of the Alleghenies, Hollidaysburg, Pa who arrived there July 16, 2010, died Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Our Lady of the Alleghenies after a brief illness.

Msgr. Panza was born in Sharpsburg, Pa on June 26, 1926, son of the late Salvatore and Rose (Lanzino) Panza.

He retired as Rector of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and the Altoona - Johntown Diocese with 42 years of service. Monsignor Panza was ordained May 22, 1954 by Bishop Richard T. Guilfoyle. He served as Parochial Vicar at St. Rose of Lima and Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament Parishes both in Altoona. Before becoming Rector of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in 1987, he was Pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Dudley, Pa and Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Philipsburg, Pa.

In 1962 he become Notary of the Diocesan Tribunal. He served as Master of Ceremonies from 1964 to 1972 and also as Vice Chacellor and from 1972 until 1987 he was Chancellor. In 1987 Monsignor was named Vicar General for Administration, a post he held until 1990.

Monsignor was named a Chaplin of His Holiness in 1974 and Prelate of Honor in 1983. In June of 1994 he was invested as a Prothonetary Apostolic.

Msgr. Panza was a 1944 graduate of Sharpsburg High School, 1950 graduate of St. Francis College and 1954, St. Frencis Seminary, Loretto, Pa.

He served in the U.S. Army as a Sgt in WWll. and he received the Euopean Africn Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and WWll Victory Medal.

Msgr Panza is survived by nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters Michelena Corrado, Frances Adams, Rite Frollini, Mary Panza and two infant sisters and two brothers Louis Panza and Saverio Panza.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Monday September 19, 2016 at The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. Committal Rites will follow.

Friends will be received Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 2 - 4 & 6:30 - 8:30 PM at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament where a Reception of the Body Prayer Service will be held at 2:00 PM and Vigil for the Deceased will be held at 8:00 PM.
