Rev. Louis J. Mulvehill S.T.L. 86, of Garvey Manor, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Johnstown died at 2:22 a.m. Monday June 8, 2015 at UPMC Altoona. He was born November 22, 1928 in Johnstown, son of the late Walter A. and Adelaide (Ager) Mulvehill.
He was a Senior Priest at Altoona - Johnstown Diocese with 50 years of service.
Fr. Mulvehill attended Herman Prep School in Herman, PA and graduated from St. Mary's University and Seminary in Baltimore, MD where he received a licentiate degree of Sacred Theology (S.T.L.) During his priesthood he served as Diocesan chaplain of the Holy Name Society as well as chaplain of the Altoona and Johnstown councils of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. To my fellow priests and my family, both blood and spiritual, may I simply say that no man could ask more from life than God has given to me. I had a marveolus childhood, good friends, a great mother, father and family. Above all this, there has been the gift of faith, a gift which has made my life, even in its darker moments, so ultimately worth living. God has been good to me throughout my life. Undoubtedly, I have offended, hurt and done injustice to others. I most sincerely hope they will forgive me. I, too, gladly forgive any who have offended me, but at the moment, I cannot think of anyone who had any need for my forgiveness. I implore my friends to remember me in their prayers for taking so for granted the love and gifts the lord has given me.
Fr. Mulvehill is survived by nieces and nephews and is the last of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by three brothers Charles, John Duane, and James and three sisters Eileen and Marie Mulvehill and Sr. M. Cresentia, Sisters of St. Joseph, Bsden, Pa.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona with Bishop Emeritus Joseph V. Adamec officiating.
Committal Rites will be held at the convience of the family at Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, PA.
Friends will be received from 3 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona where a Reception of the Body will take place at 2:45 p.m. and a Vigil Service for the Deceased will be held at 3:00 p.m. with Msgr. Michael E. Servinsky, VG officiating.
