Mr. Thomas C. Lynam, 97, of Hollidaysburg, Pa formerly of Altoona, died at 6:04 AM, Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, Duncansville, Pa His suffering was brief but no less heartbreaking for his family.
Mr. Lynam was born in Altoona, Pa on September 21, 1921, son of the late Nicholas E. and Helen C. (Hite) Lynam. He married Muriel F. Finnerty April 30, 1949 at Michael’s Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg with Bishop Richard T. Guilfoyle celebrant. She preceded him in death March 18, 2004. Tom passionately cared for her during battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
He retired in 1992 as a self-employed photographer at Tom Lynam Photography Altoona. He was a well know photographer, documenting the people, places and events of Altoona for many years. He had a limitless interest in news and current events.
He was member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, Pa were he served as an Usher.
Tom was a 1940 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a member of Altoona Photo Society. His interests were photography, ocean beaches and collecting historical information of the city of Altoona. Tom initinally worked for the Altoona Tribune Newspaper and taught photography at Altoona Vocational Technical School from 1980-1992. He had 60 years in the profession.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Cpl in WWII. Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal.
He is survived by 5 children David Lynam, Dauphin, Pa; Michael J. (Linda) Lynam, Altoona, Pa; Patricia M. Beach, Altoona, Pa; Daniel Lynam, Myrtle Beach, SC and Mark, Altoona, Pa. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by 3 sons Timothy, Christopher and Peter 2 daughters Jane and Margaret Mary Lynam 2 grandchildren Brittany and Gregory Lynam and a great granddaughter Scarlett Lynam and a sister Helene Harmon and 2 brothers Nicholas Lynam and Robert Rentz.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, with Msgr. Robert C. Mazur officiating.
Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery Altoona, Pa.
Friends will be received from 5-8 PM Monday, February 4,2019 at Jones Funeral Home where a Vigil For the Deceased celebrated during the visitation.
