Timothy Shumac

Timothy Paul Shumac, 46, Mount Union, died Monday at home.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Fred and Virginia (Mangus) McCoy. He married Melinda Mentzer.

Surviving are his wife, Melinda; two sons: Michael Keith and Jason Kruis; and seven siblings: Dave, Tom, Janie, Doris, Debbie, Mary and Susan.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Mike and Bob.

Tim was a 1986 graduate of Blair County Christian Academy. He served three tours overseas: Persian Gulf from 1990-91, Enduring Freedom in 2002 and Iraqi Freedom in 2003. He was an engineer in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1986-92, then served from 2001-04 as a petroleum supply sergeant in the 267th Quartermaster Company, having spent 15 years in the military.

Tim was a member of Ashville VFW Post 4315. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, photography and video games.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at Jones Funeral Home, Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at noon. Private interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family in care of Jones Funeral Home 1222 13th Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
